What is Bereavement

Bereavement may encompass the entire experience of family members, carers and friends in the death, and subsequent adjustment to living following a death. Bereavement care is a continuum of care from informal and formal approaches to care provided by health and community care practitioners. Grief is normal, natural and an integral part of living. Although people have different responses to grief, most seek out and are adequately supported by their existing networks such as friends and family. A small proportion of those who are bereaved do experience complicated grief or prolonged grief disorder which requires clinical/professional intervention.
